Vuoden 2017 Travel Bloggers Give Back -tempauksen tavoitteena on tukea köyhän Laosin syrjittyihin vähemmistöihin kuuluvien Bokeo-lasten koulunkäyntiä.
Poikien kohdalla tilanne on parempi. Tyttöjä usein väheksytään ja sukupuolet koetaan eri arvoisina.
Plan Suomi on tukenut jo useamman vuoden ajan Bokeon läänin lasten opetusta. Kaiken kaikkiaan projektissa on mukana 109 koulua.
Tavoitteenamme on kerätä Travel Bloggers Give Back -tempauksen kautta Matkamessuilla 2017 hyvä potti, jonka avulla voisimme auttaa parantamaan näiden köyhien alueiden lasten mahdollisuuksia saada laadukasta perusopetusta. Sen pitäisi olla jokaisen lapsen perusoikeus.
Many students live in the dormitories that are situated close to Ponglath Secondary school in Pha Oudom District, Bokeo Province. They live in simple grass huts which will soon be replaced by concrete buildings with kitchens and hygienic toilets, funded by Plan and the EU. They have to work during the darkness to keep up with their studies, although they have no electricity they use torches, oil lamps and candles.

Children sing and dance as part of classroom activities at a Plan-supported pre-school in Bokeo Province, north-west Laos. Prechool children in Pha Oudom district, Bokeo province are learning with various activities from teachers that were trained in our ECCD program. Plan Laos strengthens pre-school education by providing teacher training, arts and play materials and small grants for community construction. The next big challenge is setting up community play groups in villages too small to support a pre-school.

A new Plan-supported project in rural Laos is mobilising communities to take responsibility for their sanitation and bring an end to open defecation. Plan instigated a village mapping session to identify where each member of the village relieves themselves in a community that has no toilets. This the first step in an innovative process known as Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS). It’s designed to help communities realise the scope of the problems caused by going to the toilet in the open and motivate them to take control of making changes that have real outcomes for them and their children.
